Troubleshooting methods covered to fix this problem

  1. wp-config.php file
  2. .htaccess file
  3. php.ini file
  4. Corrupt Plugins.

Suggested Solutions To Fix

1. Increase the memory setting in the wp-config.php file

This file needs to have the below memory limit code inserted. This increases the amount of memory the site may use.

define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘256M’);

The WP_MEMORY_LIMIT option allows you to specify the maximum amount of memory that can be consumed by PHP. This setting may be necessary in the event you receive a message such as “Allowed memory size of xxxxxx bytes exhausted” [Source – WordPress Codex]

2. .htaccess file may be corrupt.

If the .htaccess file is corrupt you may get this error. To create a new .htacces file you need to rename your file to .htaccessOLD or something similar, save it, then in WordPress go to permalinks settings, re-save the permalinks and this will re-create a fresh default .htaccess file.
